For the second straight year, St. Augustine’s College won’t compete in the Sprite Ball Championship after failing to qualify to Ghana’s biggest High School Basketball tournament.
St. Augustine’s failed to progress from the Central Region qualifiers held recently at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast.
Adisadel College and Mfantsipim School have picked up the available slots from the region with Wesley Girls High School picking up the region’s sole qualification spot.
St. Augustine’s has failed to qualify to Sprite Ball in back to back editions; Adisadel and Mfantsipim represented the region at the last edition held earlier this year.
The fallout from the qualifiers represents a new low for Augustine’s who won the January 2016 edition of the competition. Augustine’s lost to Pope John Senior High School at the quarterfinal stage in the follow up edition but has been absent since the loss.
St. Augustine’s College is the first Catholic Senior High School established in Ghana in 1930. The next Sprite Ball runs from January 3 to January 4 2020 at the El Wak Stadium in Accra.
