The 2019 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Season came to an end this past weekend at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu with Ghana Police Service and Braves of Customs emerging winners.
Braves successfully defended the Benjamin Baafi Trophy thanks to a 2-1 series win over Adenta Leopards in the Men’s Division I.
Ghana Police did same in the Women’s Division by sweeping the series (2-0) against Braves of Customs; Police clinched the Matthias Ocloo Trophy courtesy an 80-59 win in Game 2.
Both teams were awarded 2000 Ghana Cedis in cash prize for topping the respective divisions with Adeta and Braves earning 1000 Ghana Cedis.
In the individual award categories, Suleman Abubakar and Matilda Gordon (both of Braves), were named Most Valuable Players in the Men’s and Women’s Divisions respectively.
The move falls in line with efforts to promote gender equality in the league. After losing 57-65 to Leopards in Game One, Braves won two straight games including a 60-56 win in Game 3 to capture its latest league title.
