After a long 24 hour wait, Ghana Police Service finally got its hands on the Matthias Ocloo Trophy after winning the 2019 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Women’s Division.
The team clinched the title on Saturday, November 16 at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu thanks to an 80-59 win over Braves of Customs.
The win was Police’s second in a row in the best of a three game series in the playoffs finals; Police beat Braves 48-45 at the Prisons Court in Cantonments in Game One.
With the Men’s Division I Finals Series tied and the final game to be played tonight, Police had to play the waiting game for its crowning moment in front of an impressive crowd that turned up in Tudu.
By winning the 2019 title, Police has successfully defended the trophy it won last year and according to Coach Chief Inspector Antwi, the team aims at winning five straight titles.
Police walked away with 2000 Ghana Cedis in prize money and the perfect end to a season that wasn’t at par to its 2018 run, on a high note.
Ghana Fire Service placed third in the league in the Women’s Division and Men’s Division I.
