Ghana Fire Service and Ghana Police Service earlier tonight at the Prisons Court in Cantonments, Accra, recorded wins in the 2019 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Playoffs.
In the Women’s Division, defending league champions Police beat close rival Braves of Customs 48-45 in Game One of the Finals Series.
This puts Police just a win away from clinching back to back league wins; this season’s title is to be decided in the best of a three game series and Game 2 is on Saturday, November 16 at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu.
In the Men’s Division I, Fire outlasted Tema Youth to clinch a 74-64 win and end the season in third place; Tema finished in second place last season.
The score was tied at several points in the game before Tema Forward Josiah Karikari buried a three point shot to give his side a 54-51 lead but Fire Forward Emmanuel Ocquaye tied the game with a layup off a Tema Youth turnover with 4:44 minutes to play in the final quarter.
After another exchange of baskets, Abdul Bashiru tipped in an offensive rebound to put Fire up 65-60 with 1:51 minutes remaining and Tema never recovered from the deficit. A four point run from Dennis Dugbennu shut out any comeback attempt from Tema Youth.
The playoffs continue on November 14 at the Prisons Court with Fire Service and Reformers of Prisons battling for third place in the Women’s Division; the game tips off at 16:00 GMT.
