The Late Matthias Ocloo

Basketballghana.com can confirm the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Women’s Division and Men’s Division I titles are to be named after Matthias Ocloo and Benjamin Baafi respectively.

The move is in recognition of the immense role both men played in the development of basketball in Ghana especially the ABL and Greater Accra Regional Basketball Association.

This was announced by the ABL Board ahead of the 2019 Finals due to commence on Wednesday, November 13 at the Prisons Court in Cantonments, Accra.

Baafi served as Chairman of the ABL and Head of League outfit Braves of Customs after his playing career. He oversaw Braves morph into a dominant side in both divisions; the CAP7 Memorial Tournament is played in honour of Baafi.

Ocloo is one of the founding fathers of the ABL and served in many roles prior to his demise in 2017 including Chairman of Ghana’s Basketball Referees Association. He is closely associated with developing women in the sport and served as Coach of St. Mary’s Senior High School.
