Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Mayor Mohammed Adjei Sowah has praised the maiden edition of the Accra Mayor’s Cup Tournament.
The one day competition took place at the SSNIT Sports Emporium in Ghana’s capital, Accra this past weekend that had selected Senior High Schools in Accra compete for the tournament played in honour of the Mayor.
Speaking to Basketballghana.com in the aftermath of the competition, Mayor Adjei Sowah was excited about the turn of events at the venue.
“It has been grand, it has been successful, am so excited about it look at the participating schools, the kids over here parents have come, people from communities have also joined” he said.
Eight schools participated in the first ever edition with four schools selected in the Boys Division and four schools drawn in the Girls Division.
Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC-Legon) beat St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School 33-20 in the Boys Division while Accra Wesley Girls High School lost 11-13 to West Africa Senior High School in the Girls Division Final.
The Mayor’s Cup served as a preparatory competition for upcoming Sprite Ball Championship qualifiers.
