Basketballghana.com can confirm the Accra Mayor’s Cup will tip off on November 2 at the Bukom Arena in Ghana’s capital, Accra.
The tournament’s date was initially rumoured to be in the latter days of this month prior to the confirmation a few minutes ago.
The competition is a partnership between the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and award winning sports event organizing firm Rite Sports with the tournament being put together in honour of AMA Mayor Mohammed Adjei Sowah.
The maiden edition of the one day basketball tournament has eight Senior High Schools set to compete; four schools will feature in the Boys Division and four schools will feature in the Girls Division.
This competition comes at a time where schools are preparing to play qualifying games for the Sprite Ball Championship later in the year.
Sprite Ball is Ghana’s biggest High School basketball competition and is also organized by Rite Sports; the Accra Mayor’s Cup could double as a preparatory competition for schools who will compete in the Sprite Ball qualifiers.
There are plans to expand the competition to feature more sports disciplines.
