The first ever Basketball Africa League (BAL) competition is set to commence in March, 2020 with the NBA and FIBA Africa striking a partnership to launch the tournament.

The opening round of qualification has 32 teams spread all over the continent vying for spots in the “Elite 16”; the competing teams have been drawn into six groups.

Qualification games at the Elite 16 stage are to be played in Mali, Gabon, Tanzania and Gabon with two more locations yet to be determined.

The top two teams from each group qualify and four more teams are to be invited to the qualified 12 teams to prop the number to 16.

The top six ranked teams from the Elite 16 tournament qualify to the main event and join select sides from Egypt, Tunisia, Senegal, Morocco, Angola and Nigeria.

Ghana’s Braves of Customs will compete in the preliminary qualifiers from October 29 to November 3 in Cotonou, Benin per reports reaching Basketballghana.com

The official period for the qualifiers is between October 15 and November 3.
