Vince Carter, the NBA’s oldest player, will return for a record 22nd season, the Atlanta Hawks announced Friday.

The Hawks are bringing the 42-year-old back for a second season. Last season, he averaged 17.5 minutes, 7.4 points and 2.6 rebounds in 76 games for the rebuilding Hawks.

If Carter, an eight-time All-Star, sticks with the team through the new year, he will be the first player in NBA history to appear in a game in four different decades, according to Elias Sports Bureau research.

Carter announced in August that 2019-20 would be his final season.

The Hawks are Carter’s eighth team. The 1998-99 Rookie of the Year and 2000 slam dunk champ has scored 25,430 total points over stints with the Hawks, Toronto Raptors, New Jersey Nets, Orlando Magic, Memphis Grizzlies, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings.

Over 1,481 games, Carter has career averages of 17.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.0 steals in 30.7 minutes.
