Eight nations including Nigeria have qualified to compete in the 2020 Olympics Basketball event in Tokyo, Japan after starring at the just ended FIBA Basketball World Cup in China.
Spain, Argentina, France and Australia finished in the top four spots at the World Cup in respective fashion with the United States of America, Iran joining host Japan in the tournament.
Nigeria won three of five games at the World Cup to beat Tunisia to win Africa’s sole automatic slot in next year’s competition. Tunisia lost out to Nigeria on goal difference.
24 nations will compete in four Olympic qualification competitions later this year and next year to determine nations qualification to complete the list of participants for the Olympics.
Senegal, Tunisia and Angola are African representatives due to compete in the qualifiers that have four spots available in Tokyo.
Europe has the most nations in the qualification pool with 11 teams and is followed by seven representatives from the Americas.
Nigeria has competed at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.
