Ghanaian Italian Small Forward Awudu Abass has expressed his disappointment regarding his run with Italy’s National Men’s Team at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in China.
Italy’s run in the competition ended in the Second Round of the tournament after a 60-67 loss to eventual champions Spain.
The team won three of five games including a 94-89 win over Puerto Rico and a 92-61 win over Angola as Italy booked a spot in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
Abass played four out of the five games and averaged eight points and three rebounds in 21 minutes with 14 points and eight rebounds coming against Puerto Rico.
In an interview with BasketUniverso on his return from China, the 26 year old player cherished his experience at the World Cup but added his disappointment.
“The World Cup is a memorable experience, but I hoped it would end differently” he said.
Abass is the subject of transfer speculation involving clubs like Olimpia Milano. He starred for Brescia Leonessa last season.
