Africa’s journey in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup has come to a quiet end following the elimination of all representatives in the competition.
This year’s World Cup had five African nations compete in the tournament for the first time ever but the increase in number didn’t reflect in the general performance.
No African nation progressed to the quarterfinals as Angola, Nigeria, Tunisia, Senegal and Ivory Coast all failed to make it to the Second Round.
The quarterfinal list of fixtures has been made with defending champions USA taking on France as Argentina plays Serbia.
Surprise package Poland takes on Spain while Australia plays Czech Republic in the other half of the quarterfinal phase. The competition ends on Sunday, September 15.
Nigeria was the best African performer at the World Cup winning three of five games and securing qualification to the 2020 Olympics Basketball event.
D’Tigers beat host China 86-73 to clinch qualification. Tunisia also recorded three wins in five games including an 86-67 victory over Philippines.
