Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo has promised to see to the construction of a world standard basketball arena according to media personality Yaw Sakyi Afari.
Afari, who doubles as Chief Executive Officer of Rite Sports Limited, made the statement after meeting with the President recently.
The veteran Broadcaster joined former NBA player Pops Mensah-Bonsu and Basketball Africa League Head of Strategy John Manyo-Plange and other personalities associated with basketball to pay a courtesy call on the President.
The visit came after Mensah-Bonsu held his first camp in the West African nation; the former Toronto Raptors Forward was born to Ghanaian parents in Britain.
During the meeting, President Akufo-Addo promised to deliver a basketball arena to aid the development of the sport in Ghana.
Despite having talented players, the lack of infrastructure has massively hampered the growth of basketball; Ghana can’t host games sanctioned by world governing body FIBA due to the absence of a standard indoor arena.
Mensah-Bonsu has taken up the role of General Manager of Capital City Go-Go in the NBA Gatorade League.
