The top six nations at the 2019 FIBA Women’s African Basketball Championship (AfroBasket) have qualified automatically to the qualification round for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games Basketball Competition.
Defending Africa Champions Nigeria, Senegal, Mali, Mozambique, DR Congo and Angola make up the top six spots in the 2019 African championship.
Angola concluded its run in the competition on Saturday, August 17 by beating DR Congo 68-48 to place fifth. The remaining places are to be sorted out later today.
Mali takes on Mozambique in the bronze medal game while West African powerhouses Senegal and Nigeria square off in the final game at 18:00 GMT tonight.
This is the second edition in a row the two teams are facing off in the final; at the 2017 edition, Nigeria beat Senegal 65-48 to clinch its third title.
Nigeria, Mozambique and DR Congo have been drawn in Group A while Senegal, Mali and Angola have been placed in Group B ahead of the qualification tournament’s run from November 14 to 17.
However, the host nation for the qualifiers is yet to be determined.
