For the second straight edition, Senegal and Nigeria will compete in the FIBA Women’s African Basketball Championship (AfroBasket) final game.

The two nations faced off in the 2017 final and Nigeria clinched its third continental title thanks to a 65-48 win and the two nations will face off on Sunday, August 18 at the Dakar Arena in Senegal.

Host nation Senegal was made to sweat for a 60-57 win over Mozambique before 15,000 fans at the recently built Dakar Arena.

Mozambique led 26-8 through the second quarter and the first half leading 35-19 and Senegal Coach Cheikh Sarr admitted shouting at his players during the break to get them back in the game.

Senegal finally got the breakthrough via a 52-51 lead in the fourth quarter as the 2017 Most Valuable Player Astou Traore recorded 16 points and nine rebounds.

Mozambique’s Leia Dongue had an 18 point, 10 rebound double double and teammate Tamara Seda added another double double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Nigeria on the other hand, had a straight forward 79-58 win over Mali. The final game is on Sunday, August 18 at 18:00 GMT.
