Title favourites Nigeria and Senegal have progressed to the quarterfinals of the ongoing 2019 FIBA Women’s African Basketball Championship (AfroBasket) after recording easy wins in the preliminary stage.

Defending champions Nigeria beat Cameroon 106-39 while host nation Senegal gave the large crowd gathered at the Dakar Arena a treat beating Egypt 85-47 to round up their run in the Group stages.

Thanks to their big wins, Senegal and Nigeria topped A and B respectively and have been joined in the quarterfinals by fellow unbeaten duo Mali and Mozambique in the quarters.

Mali beat DR Congo 82-56 while Mozambique went past West African nation Cape Verde courtesy a 60-51 win to op Group D. Mali topped Group C.

Quarterfinal games are scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 15 at the Dakar Arena with Nigeria and Senegal in line to return to the Final game after the two nations played in the 2017 edition final game.

Earlier today, Angola beat Kenya 64-51 in the Round 16 to set up a tantalizing matchup against Senegal.
