Ghanaian Italian Small Forward/Shooting Guard Awudu Abass scored 16 points helping Italy clinch its second win in the Verona Cup Tournament.

The win came via a 72-54 win over Venezuela in the last of three games played as the team continues preparations for the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China.

The tournament runs from August 31 to September 15 and Italy is drawn in Group D alongside Philippines, Serbia and Angola.

Abass top scored in the friendly matchup marking a steady increase in his production in three straight games. In Italy’s opening win, the 6 foot 7 inch Swingman scored 10 points.

In Italy’s loss to Russia, the 26 year old scored 13 points and his performance is encouraging as Italy goes on to the final phase of its preparations in the upcoming Acropolis International Tournament from August 16-19.

Abass maintained his spot on the Italian National Team as Andrea Cinciarini, Riccardo Moraschini and Michele Vitali were dropped from the preliminary roster.
