Rwanda’s National Under 16 Girls Basketball Team is in line to battle for a place in the FIBA 2020 Under 17 Girls World Cup according to Head Coach Charles Mushumba.

This comes in light in of the team’s imminent play in the African Under 16 competition which tips off tonight in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali.

The tournament runs from July 28-31 and games are to be played at the newly built Kigali Arena which seats 10,000 spectators.

The Under 16 competition has eight nations participating with two spots up for grabs at next year’s World Cup in India.

Speaking to Rwandan daily, The New Times ahead of the championship, Mushumba pointed out his team’s objectives for the tournament.

“We know that qualifying for the world championships is a long short, but we will do the best within our means. And, I have confidence in my players”-he said.

Mali, Angola, South Africa, Tanzania. Uganda and Egypt are due to compete in this year’s tournament.
