Portland Trail Blazers star C.J. McCollum has withdrawn from participation in the 2019 World Cup. According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, McCollum decided to skip the tournament to concentrate on the upcoming season.
McCollum becomes the fourth Team USA player to skip the World Cup after being named to the Team USA preliminary squad after L.A. Lakers‘ Anthony Davis and Houston Rockets‘ James Harden and Eric Gordon, in that order.
The World Cup would mark McCollum’s debut with his country’s national team.
Houston Rockets guard Eric Gordon will skip the 2019 World Cup. As Shams Charania of The Athletic reports, Gordon has withdrawn his participation from the training camp of Team USA and thus won’t be in the tournament.
Gordon is the third player that withdraws from joining Team USA in the World Cup. His Rockets teammate James Harden said that he won’t play in the tournament Friday while Anthony Davis announced that he won’t join Team USA this summer.
