Former Ghana Basketball Awards winner Romeo Enan started at Center for Ivory Coast in the West African nation’s opening game at the FIBA Africa Championship (AfroCan) on Friday, July 19.
Enan registered six points and four rebounds in 17 minutes as Ivory Coast lost 75-85 to Algeria in the final game on the first day of competition.
The maiden edition of the tournament eligible for players plying their trade on the continent commenced last night in Mali’s capital, Bamako. 12 nations are competing in this year’s edition and each nation has two spots for foreign based players.
After playing at the prestigious 2017 AfroBasket, Enan is one of the high profile players on the Elephants roster. Enan won the 2015 Tertiary Player of the Year Prize at the Ghana Basketball Awards and won multiple Accra Basketball League Men’s Division I titles with Braves of Customs.
Almany Kamara and Aristide Otto top scored for Ivory Coast with both men scoring 14 points. Algeria had five players score in double digits including Merouane Bourkaib who scored 14 points for the North Africans.
In other results, Chad lost 75-80 to Morocco, DR Congo beat Kenya 82-65 and Egypt beat Guinea 84-57.
