Greece A1 Basketball League Giant Panathinaikos has made the signing of Ghanaian Small Forward Ben Bentil official Basketballghana.com can confirm.
The signing was officially announced on Wednesday, July 17 by the reigning Greek Champions following Bentil’s capture from Peristeri GS.
The 24 year old is one of several signings Panathinaikos has made this offseason. Former NBA players including DeShaun Thomas, Tyrese Rice and Jimmer Fredette have been added to the roster.
Panathinaikos made the announcement on its Twitter page on Wednesday after reports emerged of the signing earlier this month.
The 6 foot 8 inch Bentil can play Power Forward and excelled in his first season in Greece after playing in Spain and France in his debut season in Europe.
Averaging 12.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, he was impressive in Peristeri GS’s run to fourth place in the league. Peristeri lost to Panathinaikos in the semifinals.
Bentil is the first Ghana born player to be drafted into the NBA and play in the NBA after his stint with Dallas Mavericks. He has also played in China for Xinjiang Guanghui.
