Egypt’s Senior Women’s National Team has booked its place in the 2019 FIBA Africa Women’s Basketball Championship (AfroBasket) after winning the continent’s Zone 5 qualifiers.

The series of qualification games took place all through the past weekend at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.

Kenya, host nation Uganda and Rwanda competed in the qualifiers but failed to score a win over Egypt who are the latest addition to the list of qualified nations for this year’s competition.

Egypt clinched an 86-82 win over Kenya, a 64-55 win over Uganda and sealed a 64-56 win over Rwanda to end the first stage unbeaten.

A 78-73 win and 90-72 win over Rwanda and Kenya in the semifinals and Final game respectively had Egypt clinch the team’s third straight appearance at the Women’s AfroBasket.

The 12 team biannual tournament will be held in Dakar, Senegal from August 9 to 18. Defending champions Nigeria, Cameroon and Cape Verde are among nations that have secured qualification.
