Tunisia’s Senior National Male Basketball Team Coach Mario Palma has stated his team’s intention ahead of the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

In an interview with FIBA, the veteran trainer pointed at a second round appearance as his team’s goal for the competition which runs from August 31 to September 15 in China.

Tunisia is in Group C with Spain, Iran and Puerto Rico and the reigning African champions have named a 15 man preliminary roster ahead of friendly games against the likes of Romania and China in July.

Palma is set to make a fourth appearance at the world event after leading Angola twice and Jordan in 2010 to feature on the world stage.

“We want to advance to the Second Round…Spain are the favorite on our group, but we’ll do everything we can to win games. These are strong teams, but we are used to facing strong teams. At AfroBasket 2017 there were stronger teams than ours, but we won the championship” Palma said.

Tunisia needs to finish in the top two spots in Group C to advance to the next stage.
