Reigning FIBA African Basketball Championship (AfroBasket) Champions Tunisia has released its preliminary squad for the upcoming World Cup.
This year’s FIBA World Cup runs from August 31 to September 15 in China with 32 nations set to compete. USA are the defending champions.
Tunisia is one of five African nations that have qualified to play in the World Cup and unlike Nigeria who have called up 44 players to camp, Tunisia rolled out a small pool with a host of regular names in it.
The North African giant is in Group C alongside Spain, Puerto Rico and Iran in a fairly balanced group with the top two nations eligible to qualify to the next stage.
Tunisia’s 15 man roster will drop to 12 for the World Cup but is headlined by veterans including Dallas Mavericks Center Salah Mejri and Maccabi Tel Aviv Guard Michael Roll.
The African Champions have lined up friendly games against China, Japan and Romania. Tunisia is coached by Mario Palma who is heading to his fourth World Cup. Below is the full list of players called up.
