2015 FIBA African Basketball Championship (AfroBasket) winners Nigeria has a deep roster to pick from for the upcoming 2019 FIBA World Cup.
D’Tigers Head Coach Alex Nwora recently named a 44 man roster that will battle for places in the 12 man unit in China. This year’s World Cup starts on August 31 and ends on September 15.
Nigeria has been drawn in Group B alongside Russia, South Korea and 2004 Olympic Champions Argentina with the two nations set to progress to the next round.
Five Nigerian based players headlined by veteran Guard Abdul Yahaya have been called up but the roster is dominated by foreign based players.
Captain Ike Diogu, Al-Farouq Aminu, Ben Uzoh and Jordan Nwora are likely to be selected to the final roster. Aminu and Diogu were part of the 2017 winning group.
A host of NBA players dominate the roster; OG Anunoby, Josh Okogie, David Nwaba, Semi Ojeleye, Ekpe Udoh and first year players Chuma Okeke-Orlando Magic and Miye Oni-Miami Heat made the team.
Nigeria will play friendly games against Dominican Republic and Canada.
