West African nations dominated the 3×3 Basketball podium at the just ended African Beach Games in Cape Verde. The first ever Beach Games on the continent ended on Sunday, June 23.

In the Men’s Division, host nation Cape Verde lost 17-19 to Ivory Coast in the Bronze Medal game before Mali topped Algeria in the main final.

Mali beat the North African nation 14-13 in a close encounter to clinch the gold medal with Algeria coming in second place for silver.

Ghana competed in the division but missed out on qualifying from the group stage after losing to the likes of eventual winners Mali 17-21 in its opening game.

Ghana did not compete in the Women’s Division that had Togo lose to fellow West African nation Mali 9-20. Mali completed the double on the final day of competition.

Cape Verde missed out on a medal in the division after falling 17-19 in the bronze medal game to Ivory Coast. The maiden African Beach Games had athletes compete in 11 disciplines.
