Ghana’s Senior National 3×3 Basketball Men’s Team was in action on Thursday, June 20 in its opening game at the African Beach Games taking place in Cape Verde.
Ghana lost 17-21 to Mali in the Pool A encounter between the West African nations; the Beach Games competition is the first to be held in Africa.
Mali started poorly with Ghana playing well in the opening minutes of the game but the latter lost steam allowing back into the game.
The Malians got the lead and moved on to clinch the win ahead of two games later today including one against host Cape Verde.
The game was Ghana’s first in a major tournament since its participation in the African 3×3 Basketball Championship last year.
Losing its first game means Ghana must beat Cape Verde and Ivory Coast to progress to the next stage of the competition.
Ghana plays Ivory Coast first before taking on Cape Verde. In the other Pool A game played on Thursday, Ivory Coast beat the host nation 14-12.
