Ghana Forward Ben Bentil and his side Peristeri GS have missed out on ending a fine season with a medal after losing to AEK for third place in the Greece A1 Basketball League.
AEK beat Peristeri 83-82 to clinch the medal thanks to a 3-1 result in the best of five game series; Panathinaikos won gold after sweeping Promitheas in the finals series.
Peristeri took the series lead but lost three straight games to fellow Athens based side AEK to place fourth on its return to the elite division.
Despite being the team’s most potent and consistent offensive threat, Bentil was left out of the game completely as he watched from the bench.
Reasons for his Did Not Play status is yet to be known as the 24 year old heads off the offseason on the back of his best season since turning pro in 2016.
In the lead up to the series against AEK, the 6 foot 8 51st overall 2016 NBA Draft pick averaged 15 points and 8.5 rebounds in six games in the playoffs.
