Ghana’s National Male 3×3 Basketball Team will fly out of the country to Cape Verde to compete in the first ever African Beach Games on Monday, June 17 Basketballghana.com understands.

The news was confirmed by Team Captain Benjamin Debrah as preparations continue for the multi sport continental competition.

Ghana’s contingent at the event has been gradually phased out to the West African island nation in batches that commenced on Monday, June 10. The first batch left Kotoka International Airport at 10:00 GMT.

The 3×3 team is part of the final batch of athletes to leave Ghana and are expected to arrive in Cape Verde via transit through Senegal on Tuesday, June 18.

Ahead of the Beach Games, Ghana’s contingent received support from Toyota Ghana Limited and Ashfoam Limited with Ashfoam donating $4,600 to the team. Toyota Ghana funded kits for the athletes.

This is the first major competition for Ghana’s 3×3 Basketball Team after featuring at the African Championship in Togo last year. Athletes from 54 African nations are due to compete in 11 disciplines.
