2019 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship winners University of Ghana (UG) walked away from its debut in the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’sDivision II with an important win.
The tertiary side beat Ghana Air Force 54-47 at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu on Saturday ending the latter team’s four game winning run.
Nana Tuffour scored back to back baskets with Guard Ofori Sarpong getting on the score boards as well to give Air Force a 34-28 second quarter lead.
UG got on the board through Gracefield Attoh’s three pointer off a kick out from Guard Treasure Botchway. The UG Guard turned scorer drilling a three point shot of his own from the top of the key to give UG a 37-36 lead.
Air Force Forward Daniel Opoku drilled a jump shot to restore his team’s lead. Sulley Wahab scored to stretch Air Force lead to three (40-37) but Botchway beat the buzzer to tie the game heading to the final quarter.
Emmanuel Lamptey scored six points as both teams traded baskets that had Air Force lead 47-46 with 5:41 remaining. An eight point run gave UG a 54-47 win with great work coming from Benjamin Asheitei and Bright Yeboah Amankwah on the boards. Asheitei scored four points in the run.
