Defending FIBA Africa Basketball League (AfroLeague) Champions AS Sale has to beat Africa’s most successful club side and a partisan home crowd to successfully defend its title.
The Moroccan side takes on Primeiro do Agosto in the AfroLeague Final game on Sunday, May 26 in Luanda, Angola. Agosto will play before its home fans tomorrow.
This comes after both teams secured wins in the semifinals against JS Kairouan and Smouha SC respectively last night.
Sale beat Tunisian side Kairouan 81-73 in the all North African affair while Agosto overcame a strong Smouha side representing Egypt thanks to an 86-76 win.
Brandon Wood and Soufiane Kourodu were the only Sale players to score double digit points; the duo combined for 47 points in the game as lead scorer Wayne Arnold struggled.
This was the second win for Sale over JSK after the Moroccan side triumphed earlier in the competition at the group stages.
Agosto remains on course for a ninth African title thanks to its experienced core of Andre Harris, Eduardo Mingas and Manny Quezada.
Agosto led the game after taking the lead midway through the second quarter with Harris’ 24 points leading the way.
JSK and Smouha will battle for the third spot prior to the final game tomorrow.
