Ghanaian-Italian international Small Forward Awudu Abass will have an extended period to prepare for the 2019 FIBA World Cup to be held in China from August 31-September 15.
Abass is not competing in Italy’s Serie A playoffs after his side Germani Brescia failed to progress to the postseason after placing 12th in the regular season standings.
This comes after signing a two year deal with Brescia following a successful stint with Olimpia Milano that ended with a Serie A title win.
The 6 foot 7 inch player played a key role in helping Italy qualify to the World Cup for the first time in 13 years and is expected to be named to the team that lines up in China later this year.
He averaged 13.9 points and 4.6 rebounds for Brescia while registering 10.3 points and 3.5 rebounds in 19.8 minutes for Italy.
Should the 25 year old maintain his spot in Italy’s National team, it would be the latest national assignment for Abass who was part of the nation’s Under 20 team that won the Under 20 European Championship in 2013.
His father is Ghanaian.
