Petro Luanda has won the Angolan Basketball League after beating Primeiro do Agosto 88-82 in Game 6 of the Finals Series.

The clash featuring two of the biggest names in the basketball obsessed country delivered a thrilling series in the lead up to this past weekend’s matchup.

Agosto battled hard to keep matters close after bagging a 73-70 win in Game 4 but fell to Luanda’s prime performance from veteran Forward Leonel Paulo and Swingman Jerson Goncalves.

Goncalves produced 21 points while Paulo added 20 points in the close win. Veteran Guard Carlos Morais scored 11 points for Luanda.

Winning the Angolan league qualifies Petro Luanda to next year’s Basketball Africa League organized by the NBA and due to start in 2020.

Luanda joins Tunisian Champions US Monastir and Egyptian Champions Zamalek who claimed the title ahead of Al Gezira in a five game series.

The loss comes at a crucial time for Agosto who will compete in the semifinals of the Africa Basketball League on Friday, May 24 against Smouha SC from Egypt.
