Young Boys Basketball Club have emerged winners of the 2018-2019 GSP Basketball League for the first time after coming out on top in the final round of the campaign.
The team beat Spartans 32-10 in the final game on Saturday, May 18 at the Sunyani Technical University (STU) Court for its 16th win in the season.
Boys beat defending champions Suncity Braves to the title meaning no team in the history of the league has successfully defend the title.
The low scoring game had David Ziem bag nine points and 10 rebounds with teammate Nii Nartey registering 10 points and a steal.
With Spartans and Young Boys tied on 31 points, the winner of the matchup was bound to clinch the title after Braves couldn’t score a massive win over Techiman Merchants.
Suncity trailed the top two by a point heading to the final round and needed a big win in its matchup and Spartans to beat Young Boys to stand a chance of defending the title.
Braves beat Merchants 24-16, STU beat Desert Rabbits 28-21 and West Siders beat Barracks Scorpions 36-34.
