Zamalek Basketball Club has clinched the Egyptian Super League title for the 2018-2019 season after beating Al Gezira 87-66 in the final game.
The finals was played in the best of five games series between the aforementioned teams with the league title at stake.
Zamalek won Games One and Two running away with 87-85 and 88-84 wins respectively but couldn’t seal the title in Game 3.
Al Gezira mounted a strong comeback to clinch a 92-80 win in the crucial Game 3 before adding a 76-65 win in Game 4 to even the series.
However in Game 5, Zamalek ended on the winning side courtesy an 87-66 win and secure its 14th league title. The team has the second highest league titles behind Ittihad Alexandria.
Winning its latest title also guarantees a place in the NBA’s Basketball Africa League in 2020. Egypt is one of six nations whose domestic league champions have automatic qualification to the new continental competition.
Tunisia’s US Monastir sealed its place in next year’s competition after beating ES Rades to win the local league title.
