Cameroon has qualified to compete in the 2019 FIBA Africa Nations Championship (AfroBasket) after sweeping its two leg series against Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Lionesses of Cameroon beat DR Congo 70-66 in the second game between the two nations over this past weekend in Yaounde.

In Game One, the host nation scored a hefty 91-46 win and struggled to dominate the second and only managing to clinch the four point win.

The host opened the game with a 17-14 first quarter lead but got pegged back by Congo’s hug second quarter performance that ended in a 27-9 win for the visitors.

Cameroon trailed Congo at the end of the third quarter by 13 points but finished strong to score the last four points in the game when the score was tied at 66 with under two minutes remaining.

Congo’s Mariana Maudi led Congo with 13 points, four rebounds, an assists and a steal while Marie Yvette Mfoula led Cameroon with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Cameroon is the fifth nation to qualify to the 2019 competition.
