Nations that finish in the top seven spots in the upcoming competition in China will gain qualification to next year’s Olympics Male Basketball competition.

A record 32 nations will feature at the World Cup with an equally record setting number of African nations competing. Five nations will represent the continent.

Angola, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Nigeria and Tunisia qualified from the continent after three rounds of qualification games that span almost two years.

This increases the chances of an African team playing at the quarterfinals for the first time ever. In last year’s Women’s World Cup, Nigeria became the first African nation to compete at the quarterfinal stage.

The qualified have varied chances of progressing from the group stage. Ivory Coast is in Group A alongside China, Venezuela and Poland.

However, Senegal is in the very tough Group D alongside Canada, Lithuania and Australia.
