The friendly matchup takes place as a pre World Cup tune up for both nations; the 2019 FIBA World Cup runs from August 31-September 15 in China with 32 nations competing.

It is the latest high profile friendly game Nigeria’s D’Tigers has engaged in recent years; the West African powerhouse played a friendly matchup against USA ahead of the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

Canada is regarded as one of the best sides heading to China thanks to a heavy collection of NBA talents including Tristan Thompson of Cleveland Cavaliers, Kelly Olynyk of Miami Heat, Jamal Murray of Denver Nuggets and Andrew Wiggins.

The 2015 African Champions headline the continent’s contingent; Angola, Ivory Coast, Tunisia and Senegal are the remaining representatives.

Nigeria is in Group B alongside South Korea, Russia and Argentina with Canada in the Group of Death-Group D alongside Senegal, Lithuania and Australia.
