Poor first quarter performances from University of Ghana (UG) and Tudu Magic cost them possible wins in the last round of Accra Basketball League (ABL) games played on Saturday, April 27 at the Prisons Court in Cantonments, Accra.
UG lost 22-27 to Ghana Navy in the Women’s Division after trailing 2-16 in the first quarter with Guard Esther Manpong scoring UG’s sole basket.
The tertiary side performed better in the remaining quarters closing the deficit to seven through the second and third quarters before losing by five points.
It was a far better performance from the 2018 Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games silver medalist who lost 14-89 against Braves of Customs in a prior contest.
In the Men’s Division I, Magic lost 54-58 to Adabraka CYO after suffering a 3-15 loss in the first quarter. That slow start ultimately cost the Tudu based side a winnable matchup.
Guard Ibrahim Mohammed starred for his side draining multiple three point shots but Magic’s efforts were undermined by CYO’s strong presence on the offensive boards late in the game.
