Ghana Fire Service clinched a 53-49 win over Kawukudi Warriors earlier tonight in the only Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division I.

The matchup was played out at the Prisons Court in Cantonments, Accra with the other game-a Women’s Division matchup-ending in 61-21 win for Braves of Customs over Galaxy.

Fire led 9-8 after first quarter before a light drizzle interrupted play in the second quarter. With 1:54 remaining in the second quarter Warriors led 19-17 after Sylvester Asirifi dropped a cute pass off to Yaw Afrifa inside the paint to connect on a layup. John Okumoh tied the game from the free throw line in the earlier possession.

Warriors took a 27-25 lead on the back off two three point shots from Emmanuel Ocquaye early in the second quarter and teammates David Okoe and Daniel Otu Laryea scored as Fire took a 36-30 third quarter lead

The teams traded baskets in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter with Philip Amralo scoring for Fire and Afrifa doing same for Warriors. Fire stretched its lead to 11 (43-32) before Amos Ollenu sank a three point shot to end Warriors scoring drought and added another to reduce Warriors deficit to five (40-45).

Fire led 45-43 With 3:33 remaining in the final quarter and went on a scoring run to lead 52-43 with 2:08 left to play. The game ended 53-49 for Fire after Warriors scored points late in the game from the charity stripe to close out the matchup.
