Confirmed reports reaching Basketballghana.com indicate Rwanda has officially tendered its bid to host the 2021 FIBA Africa Basketball Championship (AfroBasket).
Rwanda Basketball Federation President Desire Mugwiza confirmed the bid earlier this week with the East African country aiming to host the continent’s flagship competition for the first time.
Rwanda becomes the third country to submit its bid to host the games which will is to be held in four years replacing the two year period before.
West African powerhouses Senegal and Mali are the two nations competing with Rwanda to host the games in a couple of years.
Senegal recently opened the grand Dakar Arena which has a 15,000 seating capacity and has facilities for several sports disciplines including volley ball and handball.
Rwanda is finishing up on its Kigali Sports Arena with its 10,000 seating capacity; the facility is expected to open in August.
The country’s National Men’s Team –The Wasps- ranks 87th in the world despite dropping three places in the latest FIBA World Rankings.
The Wasps are expected to compete in the AfroCan qualifiers in June.
