Chief Executive Officer of Rite Sports Limited Yaw Sakyi Afari has pointed out logistical challenges as the reason behind his firm’s consistent use of University of Ghana (UG) Central Courts for the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
Rite Sports organizes the prestigious competition and the CEO doubles as the competition’s Project Manager. He addressed the issue in light of major criticism over the use of the facility which many believe gives UG an advantage.
UG has won four straight UPAC titles including this year’s edition thanks to a 37-32 win over Takoradi Technical University (TTU) in the final game.
Speaking to Hood2Hood Basketball portal, Afari dismissed allegations that pit the organization firmly in UG’s corner stating:
“Some think that UG keeps winning because of home advantage and I explain to them it’s because of logistics. They seem to have two courts decent enough to play games concurrently and that’s why it seems to be the favorite or the preferred venue”.
Accra Technical University (ATU) was very vocal about the institution deemed biased calls against them in its 50-51 semifinal loss to UG.
