Premier sports firm Rite Sports Limited Chief Executive Officer Yaw Sakyi Afari has stated it is the intention of the company to make the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship “truly national”.
He made this statement in an interview with basketball portal Hood2Hood on the sidelines of the 2019 UPAC University of Ghana (UG) won after beating Takoradi Technical University (TTU) 37-32 in the final.
Rite Sports organizes the renowned tournament since 2011 with the 2019 competition the sixth edition in the tournament’s history.
However, all editions of the tournament have been held at the UG’s Central Court in Ghana’s capital, Accra leading many to believe time is due for a change.
“It would be our joy to rotate the competition so that it becomes truly national so yes that is something that the team will sit and review it and we will let the public know how that goes” he said.
The UPAC Championship hosts zonal competition across much of the West African nation with zonal winners qualifying to compete at the national level in Accra.
