University of Ghana (UG) Men’s Basketball Coach Dr. Baba Samori has stated games in the just ended Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship were “tough”.
He made the statement in an interview with Basketballghana.com after leading UG to its fourth UPAC title thanks to a 37-32 win over Takoradi Technical University (TTU) in the final game.
UG recovered a 21-24 deficit in the third quarter to clinch the five point win at the institution’s Central Court. Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) placed third.
Responding to questions on the team’s successful run, Coach Samori acknowledged the high level of competition in the tournament stating:
“Man the games were tough I will never say it was easy but the Guerillas-UG- aint easy the Guerillas like it tough we like to be down we are Guerillas, that’s what we do”.
UG scrapped past bitter rival Accra Technical University (ATU) 51-50 in the semifinal and survived to win its opening quarterfinal game against TTU 44-42 after falling 5-20 in the first quarter.
Samori was named Coach of the Tournament.
