Catholic University College, Ghana clinched its maiden win at the quarterfinal stage of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
The 2019 UPAC ended recently with University of Ghana (UG) winning the title for the fourth time in a row. UG beat Takoradi Technical University (TTU) 37-32 in the final game.
For Catholic University, the just ended campaign is a historic one for the Sunyani based institution who shocked favorites Sunyani Technical University (STU) to win the Zone 4 title.
Winning the zonal title secured the team’s progression to the quarterfinals for the first time ever and got drawn in Zone A alongside eventual finalists UG and TTU.
Despite losing 28-45 to UG and 19-30 to TTU, the debutant showed a lot of courage and fight to avoid getting blown out by the far superior teams.
To cap its impressive outing, Catholic bagged a 41-34 win over Koforidua Technical University to clinch its debut win at the UPAC knockout phase.
The team is poised to be build on the experience and perform better in subsequent editions.
