Accra Technical University (ATU) Men’s Basketball Team became the first team to forfeit a game in the history of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
ATU forfeited its scheduled third and fourth placed matchup against Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) at the recently ended 2019 competition.
This year’s competition was the sixth edition of the prestigious competition in Ghana and ATU went into the history books for the wrong reasons by forfeiting the game.
The team abandoned the game because they felt aggrieved by the calls that went against them in the crunch game against bitter rival University of Ghana (UG).
The semifinal clash lived up to the hype with both teams producing breathtaking basketball and ended in 51-50 win for UG. The result pushed UG into its fourth straight final appearance.
UG went on to beat Takoradi Technical University (TTU) 37-32 in the final with KNUST coming in third place for its second UPAC Bronze medal.
