Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Men’s Basketball Team has clinched its second bronze medal at the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
KNUST’s second bronze medal win at the prestigious games was won without struggle as its opponent in the third place game, Accra Technical University (ATU), failed to show up for the contest.
ATU forfeited the game to register their unhappiness about officiating in its semifinal game against eventual champions University of Ghana (UG).
Accra Technical lost 50-51 to UG in an entertaining semifinal game and stormed out of the venue in protest feeling aggrieved by some calls made by game officials.
KNUST was present on the court for the contest but the tie was called off after ATU failed to return to the venue after 15 minutes handing the bronze medal to the Kumasi based institution.
In 2015, KNUST placed second and placed third a year later but missed out any medal in the 2017 and 2018 editions respectively.
Coach Reagan Sarpong’s side lost 33-36 to Takoradi Technical University in overtime in the semifinals.
