University of Ghana (UG) has clinched its place in the final game of the 2019 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

UG beat Accra Technical University (ATU) 51-50 in the first semifinal game of the day; Takoradi Technical University (TTU) plays Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

UG held a 13-7 first quarter lead and maintained its six point lead at the end of the first half after clinching a 26-20 lead.

ATU’s Daniel Otu Laryea scored five points to begin the third quarter including a three point shot to reduce the deficit to 25-26.

UG responded with two points from Emmanuel Wolff before Otu Laryea scored a trio of three point shots to give ATU a 37-35 third quarter lead.

Laryea’s hot shooting streak continued in the final quarter to stretch ATU’ s lead to 42-35. Aminu Mohammed buried two free throws to get UG to 37.

Mohammed added more points from the free throw line and Wolff and Johnson Okoe scored layups to give UG 45-44 lead.

Frederick Asante scored a three point shot and slammed a massive dunk to give ATU 50-48 lead. Mohammed drained a jump shot to tie the game with 1:45 left.

UG converted one of two free throws in the final minute to take a 51-50 lead but Laryea’s jump shot attempt missed to end an incredible game and leave ATU heartbroken.
