With 13 seconds left to play in the first semifinal of the 2019 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship, University of Ghana (UG) held a one point lead over Accra Technical University (ATU).
The game’s Most Valuable Player Daniel Otu Laryea had the chance to give ATU the game’s lead with time running out but the Power Forward’s jump shot didn’t connect.
The final whistle sounded giving UG a 51-50 win to qualify to the final game of this year’s competition and keep its hope of winning a fourth straight UPAC title.
Minutes earlier, Laryea played a starring role in ATU’s comeback to take a 42-37 lead in the final on the back of four three point shots.
Teammate and Point Guard Fred Asante scored a three point shot, stole the ball and slammed the ball in a big run For ATU.
However, UG chipped away from the free throw line and got the lead with seconds left to play to progress to its fourth straight UPAC final.
Conversely, ATU’s wait for a third title continues.
