Accra Technical University (ATU) has forfeited the bronze medal game in the 2019 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship Basketballghana.com can confirm.
ATU failed to show up for the scheduled game against Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) at the University of Ghana (UG) Central Court.
Ghana’s biggest basketball portal understands ATU felt aggrieved by calls from game officials in its 50-51 loss to UG in the semifinal.
The two time UPAC Champions battled UG in an exciting semifinal earlier today and had a 50-49 lead with 39 seconds left to play but two free throws from UG and a missed jump shot from ATU resulted in the close loss.
KNUST lost 33-36 in overtime to Takoradi Technical University (TTU) in the second semifinal missing the chance to feature in its first UPAC final since 2015.
As a result, KNUST clinches its second bronze medal in the history of Ghana’s biggest tertiary basketball competition. UG plays TTU in the final game with UG aiming for a fourth straight time. For TTU, a win would be its first UPAC title.
